So this is my view on The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer. But it's Christmas, and someone has to redress the balance in the schmalz-fest. Furthermore, the Twin Peaks world was continued in books titled “The Autobiography of F.B.I. With her latest feature Chained, where the enduring heritage of bad fathering – a preoccupation that can be traced back to her 1990 Twin Peaks tie-in book The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer - is explored in agonising detail. The Barkers have a framed prom photo of their niece wearing a tiara prominently displayed, and a similar photo of Laura Palmer remains the iconic "Twin Peaks" image. Up to now I've chosen the second option. A book (penned by Lynch's daughter) tied in with the tv show and movie, entitled The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer. I first became aware of her through voraciously reading The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer, a brilliant tie-in that she wrote to accompany her father's television show with Mark Frost, one that explored the dark heart of Twin Peaks' troubled teen and operated as both a convincing confessional and a guilty pleasure. For research purposes, I have dug this old gem out of my book shelf. But in reading the book, one got the sense of glimpsing a bit into Jennifer Lynch's own sinister psyche, and Boxing Helena would confirm those suspicions. Twin Peaks was one hell of a phenomenon. Yes, I own and once devoured The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer. The book they picked up at the library was written by Earl Wyndham. Even now, I open to any page and know exactly why.
